Much of my teaching experience is from my work in professional development and outreach settings. I have primarily worked with cooperative extension as a faculty member, with state funded projects doing outreach presentations, and with local child care resource and referral networks as a trainer.
In these settings, I have presented workshops or curated materials to help practicing professionals update their knowledge base and skills. This type of teaching challenges me to meet diverse learners at various career stages and levels of knowledge in the field of early childhood education. I try to plan interactive learning opportunities and encourage participants to focus on the key ideas they will bring back to their classrooms, programs, and interactions with young children and their families.
You can see slides and outlines of some of my presentations on slideshare.
Little Kids Cook is a sample of my work in cooperative extension program development. The Leader Guide and Participant Guide include details of how to carry out a workshop that encourages child care providers and families to engage young children in cooking experiences.
